Review of The Virgin Suicides (2000) by Beth G — 10 Sep 2012
I may often use the "word" haunting to describe movies, but The Virgin Suicides is a perfect example of a haunting movie. Shot in glowing and golden tones, the actual cinematography provides a sharp contrast to the inner turmoil the characters are experiencing.
That contrast is possibly one of the most disconcerting and memorable parts of the movie. It's like if The Sandlot met Donnie Darko and those stories were documented by Sylvia Plath. The Virgin Suicides is both a reverie and an elegy to innocence and adolescence.
