Review of The Virgin Suicides (2000) by E. Nikole H — 24 Mar 2014
Imperfect, but beautiful in ways that are hard to express. What is this movie about? Is it about the Lisbon girls? The boys who watched them and adored them? What does it say about suicide? About the loss of childhood? There is so much here and Coppola wisely handles the subject in a mysterious and ambiguous way.
A heavy hand would have lessened the impact and irony of we, as the viewers, watching this take place and being shocked by it but still moving on.
