Cheesy soap opera redeemed by the sheer acting talent. Liz Taylor at her most beautiful and at the height of her affair with Burton is dazzling, but the film is stolen by the understated passions of Maggie Smith.
Margaret Rutherford and Rod Taylor also shine.
