Review of The Violent Kind (2010) by Kevin F — 11 May 2011
The directors of "The Hamiltons" The Butcher Brothers, mix genres to tell the story of members of a ruthless biker gang who come across an even more twisted group who are far more then just psychos.
While not entirely successful at what it tries to achieve, flick pitting characters normally the villains against something far more evil, does have some spooky moments, some good gore and plenty of weirdness to entertain.
And while the flick sometimes gets a little too weird for it's own good, the Butchers do take some familiar themes and turn them on their head just like they did with the Hamiltons. And like that film, the acting can be a bit amatuerish at times but, not enough to cause harm.
I like the Butcher Brothers stuff and hope they continue to make films (a Hamiltons sequel is currently in production.) but, while wishing them success, I also hope they never stray too far from their low budget roots as it seems to suit their style of filmmaking.
Recommended for those who like their horror a little different or simply love inventive low budget horror flicks like I do.
