Review of The Village (2004) by Hayden L — 11 Nov 2013
I liked this film when it came out, but I gave it a second watch today. There is this quaint village where the townsfolk don't want to venture into the woods or they will face the creatures. They also bury anything that is red, the forbidden color of those monsters.
This sets up an interesting premise, until the first twist occurs about an hour in and ruins a lot of the suspense built up. At this point, the story becomes incredibly silly and continues to go on with the blind girl venturing out into the wilderness.
Then the second twist comes regarding the village and the outside world which just feels incredibly cheap. This film does not hold up well to repeat viewings and only the first one is worthwhile.
