Review of The Vikings (1958) by Fredo S — 05 Oct 2009
Beautifully-shot movie from the golden age of Hollywood epics, and--how about that--it's actually not that bad, history-wise. The material culture is quite good and the film captures well the spirit of the Vikings.
And this movie has actually aged well, with only one or two really off-putting late-50s scenes and the inevitable pointy-brassiered heroine to give the game away. Kirk Douglas is especially good in his role.
Kudos for using the Bayeux Tapestry in the credits, even if that was Norman and not Viking per se.
