Review of The Verdict (1982) by Nate C — 06 Jun 2007
Paul Newman plays a drunk, but what else is new? Actually, this time he plays a drunk who really turns things around for himself. Frank Galvin is an ambulance chaser of sorts. He was a once-promising young attorney, whose life fell apart after he was falsely accused of jury tampering.
He spends more hours downing bottles than penning briefs. However, a medical malpractice case changes his character and motivates him to seek justice for perhaps the first time in years. The movie even attempts to show that the Catholic Church is less than compassionate.
However, they do not make a big point on this.
