Review of The Verdict (1982) by Frank M — 29 Mar 2009
Of all Newmans performances, this is the one I love the most. A failure as a lawyer, as a husband, now an ambulance chaser, he is given a chance to make amends to do the right thing against the odds. Yes just an underdog story, but better than this is the open failities and human decency that comes out of this character that I felt many can relate to.
Perfectly casted, and a film never in a rush, allowing you know what this moment is like. Lumet's best in my eys, and the same to Newman.
