Review of The Vanishing of Sidney Hall (2018) by Hadley A — 13 Jul 2018
I am leaving this review, though I know absolutely no one will read it, because this movie isn't ranked as high as it should be. It seems that the people that are watching and reviewing are simply doing so on a technical level.
I know this movie wasn't filmed in a linear timeline, and that the cliches are apparent throughout and that the "perfect" shot was notably overused. However, this movie was able to tell a story in a way that kept your attention hyper-focused on the screen.
The twists and turns were not at all apparent and yet completely predictable in a way that made you feel something. It wasn't needlessly action packed or fueled by a budget, instead this movie had something to say to people that can relate to the protagonist.
And it succeeded in every way.
