Review of The Vanishing (1993) by Alysia V — 19 May 2009
Jeff Bridges & Kiefer Sutherland-two actors with two of the best voices in Hollywood, if you ask me. Everytime I hear either of them speak, it's just perfection. Was excited to see them both in a movie together, though I thought this to be simply subpar.
Bridges did a good job of coming across as this sort of awkward family man only to unleash his pyschopathic side of him throughout the movie. It was so unexpected and I think that's when it's the creepiest.
.when you look at the person and don't at all expect them to be a mental-case murderer. And being buried alive? One of the worst ways to go, in my opinion. Gives me chills just thinking about it. You have to admire Kiefer's relentless search for Bullock in this movie.
.just wish the outcome would've been different. I think if this were made now, it could be a much better movie. Good actors, good story-line, it just all felt very out-dated to me, and not in a good way either.
