Review of The U.S. vs. John Lennon (2006) by Ty B — 25 Aug 2007
Okay I am not the biggest John Lennon fan. In fact, I really dislike his arrogance. I do respect him as a musician. However, this documentary gave me a great deal of admiration for Lennon as an activist(even though I differ with his views).
I do have a small problem with how much they vilify Nixon in the documentary. This is nothing, however, when compared to how they demonize J. Edgar Hoover's misuse of the FBI to track war protesters.
I agree with the filmaker on this point, but I have some small issues about how other dissidents are portrayed (like making the founder of the Black Panthers seem like a tolerant, enlightened leader of the underclass).
Overall, it is quite an interesting watch and I took something away from it. And thats all you can ask from a documentary.
