Review of The U.S. vs. John Lennon (2006) by Jeffrey S — 04 Apr 2007
What may seem like thin material for a documentary -- the U.S. government's pursuit of John Lennon's antiestablishment antics to the point of attempted deportation -- works mostly because Lennon himself is such an aborbing subject to behold.
It's a lot of talking-head comtemporary interviews with people who knew him, but there's enough archival footage of Lennon and Yoko noodling here, protesting there, and being generally, disobediently leftist during the Nixon years that we get insight into a man who probably lived a life interesting enough to fuel 10 documentaries on 10 different topics.
