Review of The Upside of Anger (2005) by Gurnles G — 20 Apr 2008
This film is a powerful study about anger, love, family and our culture. Written and directed by Mike Binder this film delves into these character's lives in such an interesting and powerful way that you understand what they are feeling even when they don't say it.
All the performances are good including the four daughters played by Alicia Witt, Erika Christensen, Keri Russel, and Evan Rachel Wood. Kevin Costner turns in a great performance as Denny a former baseball star.
Which brings us to the great Joan Allen. This is Allen's movie through and through and she turns in a heart wrenching, powerful, deep performance as Terry Wolfmeyer. This is a tour-de-force performance that resonates all throughout the film.
This screenplay is fantasticly written and I much perfer Mike Binder at this level then the disappointing Reign Over Me. All in all this film is a triumph.
