The Upside happens to have a few downsides, but they are few.
The relationship between Phillip and Dell is thrilling to watch, and the side characters are well shaped throughout. The score was surprisingly good, and the script was very well crafted. I could tell there was a passion for this movie. And I loved this movie so much that I saw it twice! But the second viewing showed some negatives.
You never really dig into Dell's past, which you don't notice your first viewing, but it bothers you the second time, as you want more character depth. There is also some weird directing choices, but these are so minor that I don't think anyone would notice.
The Upside truly is an Upside to the year. (Sorry, I couldn't stop myself.) [8.2/10].
I highly recommend checking this one out.
