The Upside is a fine film to watch on a lazy afternoon when it comes on FX or something. You can half pay attention to it as you mess around on your phone or computer. As a theatrical release, though, it's bland.
There are a few laughs to be had and there are a few emotional moments, but the majority of the film is the definition of average.
