Review of The Untouchables (1987) by Angel A — 02 Sep 2012
A very good film. This is without a doubt one of DePalma's best. This has everything a man could ask for. Drama, action, and blood. Yes, this was really bloody just like Brian DePalma's other work.
After all Alfred Hitchcock is one of his inspirations. The best part had to be the story. If you like mobster films then this has that. The writing was good, all scenes where necessary. It told the story in a nice and easy manner.
The film is easy to keep track of so don't worry about being lost with this one. The acting was okay considering it's DePalma's weakest part of directing. Sean Connery deserved that Oscar especially for going down like that.
At least it shows that DePalma got better. My other favorite part was Eliot pushed Frank Nitti off the building. In the future someone will copy that scene just like how DePalma copies other people's work.
Many people would say that Elliot was a hypocrite for obeying the law yet breaking them in order to get Al Capone. "I think I'll get a drink", that last line says everything. It says that he is human and not perfect.
If you like mobster films with lots of blood then this is for you.
