Review of The Untouchables (1987) by Tristan M — 02 Sep 2014
Although it problably isn't the best gangster movie out there, it is one of the greats. The cast is good, unfortunately we don't see a whole lot of Al Capone, and therefore we don't see a whole lot of Robert de Niro.
It has an older feel to the film, with older style sound effects and filming, but it easily stands up to the others of its time. The acting is all great, it's full if good actors, and I was suprised to see Kevin Costner in this film, as he usually isn't in this type of movie.
The movie itself was well done, it was exciting, had some good action scenes, and some quoteable moments. The action is good, although Capones men never seem to have the ability to hit anything unless their right in front of them, if they even pull the trigger before being killed.
But the movie is on the more gory bloody side compared to the movies of the day. The films often suspenseful and sad at the right moments, however often predictable as well. How much the movie follows what actually happened, I don't really know, but I can say that the idea of the four misfits taking down Al Capone in their own isn't the most believable.
However it does make for a great film, and it proves that nobody is untouchable. Great movie about the mob in Chicago, and is a lot like an older Gangster Squad movie.
