Review of The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988) by Codie E — 05 Jul 2008
Unfortunately this is a pretty close adaptation of Kundera's book, and for what are minor criticisms of the novel become major ones here. For example the cold characters of the book work with the narration but without any form of narration in the film watching these shallow and uninteresting characters is not enjoyable.
The pacing is awful and despite some of the epic surroundings and events the characters find themselves in (which really don't feel natural or have any real flow) these relationships don't feel epic in the slightest.
I do not care for the effect each character has on one another. The cast do okay, Lena Olin the standout, but all struggle with accents.
