Review of The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988) by Alper A — 29 Dec 2008
Should have red the book, of course, first. Nonetheless - I loved this. Compulsive womaniser, but ultimately decent, Tomas and his amours against the events of 1968 Czechoslovakia. He is not unaffected by the events (he refuses to recant a minor publication end so can no longer practice as a surgeon), but itâ??s the way that life goes on anyway thatâ??s so appealing.
It looks good too, in a quite traditional way. Also looking good are the ladies - the lovely Juliette Binoche and the even gorgeouser Lena Olin - my God that hat! Sweet ending touched with sadness.
