Review of The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988) by Caleb M — 02 Jun 2009
A beautiful film. Kaufman shows us these characters trying to find happiness; Tomas through emotionally detatched sex; Sabina through art and short-term romances, and Tereza through the love of her husband.
These characters interact with eachother and try different ways to feel and express their emotions, sometimes hurting one another, sometimes helping. In the end though, Kaufman seems to acknowledge that those with whom we truley connect with are individuals we can share the good, bad, and hard times with.
