Review of The Two Jakes (1990) by Ricardo A — 06 Oct 2010
Brilliant beginning. Really had me revved up and excited about the film. Loved the hand grenade scene. After that...it sort of ground down to a slower pace. Lots of interesting touches here and there. Kind of falls short in the end.
Doesn't live up to the original "Chinatown" but didn't deserve the critical ribbing it got. Had brilliant touches. End wasn't as strong as the beginning. Fell short but wasn't bad as a friend said it was.
I didn't trust his opinion on Two Jakes or on Dead of Winter, so goes to show you film viewing is entirely subjective. Worth it for the first hour alone.
