Review of The Two Jakes (1990) by Hotelcentral — 03 Dec 2018
Roger Ebert said that every scene in this film falls into place like clockwork. How he came to that conclusion I have no idea. My own reaction is closer to that of Variety, which described the film as an obtuse jumble.
Spoiler alert: If I understand the plot correctly,a woman goes to bed with a man in order to provide her husband with a legal justification for killing the man. And, okay, there are women in the world who might do that, but I'd have to say that they're far enough out of the mainstream that if you want me to believe it then you better show me some proof that your character is that kind of a woman.
All in all, the film is tolerably entertaining, but not by much.
