Review of The Two Jakes (1990) by Mike H — 01 Jul 2011
There's nothing technically wrong with this movie. It's got a pretty good plot and the dialogue's well-written. It fits well with the first movie. It's shot well. The actors give more than adequate performances, though by no means is it any of the big actors' best work.
The main problem is that it unnecessarily adds to that great ending from "Chinatown"and--if you've seen that movie first (a prerequisite to caring about a lot of things in this movie)--it ruins the mythos a bit.
It was a good movie, that I don't think I'd recommend to anyone unless they had to see it. A sequel to forget about.
