Review of The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) by Steve D — 01 Sep 2014
I really tried to give the Twilight series a fair shake; the first Twilight movie is merely mediocre, and actually close to possibly being a good movie. New Moon, on the other hand, is complete garbage.
Bella is really the worst. What a horrible protagonist. Edward is even more creepy than the first movie. They have some of the most awfully wooden dialogue, you can tell the actors aren't taking it seriously, either.
The "love story" is one of the worst I've seen, the terrible comparison of Romeo and Juliet is in one way sort of apt - it feels like the "love" between two thirteen year-olds (never mind that one of them is 100, lol).
Kristen Stewart is so awful in this; mind she doesn't have much to work with in having to spout such awful dialogue, but her delivery is so devoid of emotion it's laughable. The whole Jacob character is laughable as well.
Judging from this movie, Stephanie Meyer's conception of vampires is really poor, she's developed a pretty weak depiction of vampire mythology. Edward sparkling in the Bella's dream at the beginning made the movie worth it, though, I don't think I've laughed harder during a scene in at least a couple months.
