Review of The Truman Show (1998) by Lee M — 07 Jul 2013
A excellent, well-made, and captivating film which provides great social commentary on consumerist, capitalist American culture. Jim Carrey really proves himself as a good actor and not just a star of silly slapstick comedies.
Ed Harris does a good job as Christof the villain who throughly builds up an empire of greed and lies. The film is way too realistic. A corporation enslaving a human being for the sake of profit and cheap entertainment seems right around the corner in America.
The film really is a uniquely American nightmare just waiting to happen. I think more movies like this need to be made. There is just so much formula in the movies these days I think a smart, complex films like the Truman Show need to come out more.
