Review of The Truman Show (1998) by Davidtejada — 28 Nov 2018
"Could you believe me if I told you I had a task in Philosophy regarding this movie. In spite of being a little confusing the very beginning. Jim Carrey, portraying the exhausted Truman Burbank, looks fabulous, it is all that we need to know about the movie in order to enjoy it at the fullest".
It took me nearly a couple of hours in order to fulfil my outlook about the movie’s main intention. I know, directing a movie where everything is not what you always expected is sort of difficult because you will have to introduce each character and each situation which, at the end, turned out to be as fake as ever. For example, I thought the very beginning Truman’s father would end up being crucial to the plot, nevertheless he was as secondary as most of the characters. The same happens to Marlon and some others. Consequently there is a space of instability where the movie baffles you. Nevertheless if you pay attention, your perception regarding the movie could change positively.
Until this point is where you realise that something brand-new is happening with my critic, this movie is special to me. Not necessarily the most difficult but some of the most tedious I have written about. I did like the Truman show, but I cannot stand the surroundings and the redundant lifestyle the same Truman has. It is a fun gag I suppose, when you spot people watching and gesturing at the TV. It is charming the strong and brief relationship place the very beginning and some remarkably funny scenes. The thing is that you get bored but at the same time distracted. Which makes the movie one of a kind. Also the standpoint of philosophy, if we are truly under a TV show or if we are nothing more than actors. It is the inquisitiveness that makes the movie a classic of a lifetime. After all, as it was so difficult to me, I have to say the movie deserves its own achievements and also appreciation. It is worth a while, it is worth to think, and it is worth to have a nice time to engage a conversation about these topics. We also might bear in mind that Carrey’s performance is some of the most hilarious I have seen in my entire life.
