Review of The Tripper (2006) by Jackalqueen ~ — 06 Oct 2007
This might have scored higher if I hadn't just watched 'Hatchet' because this film suffers by comparison but it's not badly done. A group of teens off to a Free Love festival first run into trouble with some local rednecks and then find themselves stalked in the woods by an axe-weilding killer with a Ronald Reagan fixation.
The use of weird camera effects to represent the drug use wears thin pretty quickly and the film felt a bit bogged down by the political preaching (this is only meant to be a slasher film after all, not a political satire) but it does have some humour, a good dose of blood splatter and quite a lot of unnecessary nudity to make up for its failings (one of which is a ridiculous scene involving a chemical toilet!).
Watch it, but then watch 'Hatchet' and see how it should have been done.
