Review of The Tripper (2006) by Talon B — 01 Jul 2008
David Arquette always seems to play a goofball no matter how he's cast so it stands to reason that his first attempt behind the camera would result in a movie that is more or less a big ball of goofiness.
Unfortunately Arquette makes the horrifying mistake of taking it a little too serious at times and we're left with a film that has too little substance to have any social/political satire and too much goofing around to be genuinely scary.
With a cast like Jason Mewes, Paul Reubens, Courtney Cox and Lukas Haas, Arquette should have scrapped the script's flimsy attempt of a political statement and simply gone for the campy gusto of an 80s-style slasher flick, sans the Gipper.
..er...I mean Tripper. *sigh* Yes, it seems like a stoner idea that got taken too far, and judging by Arquette's personality, that's very likely what happened here.
