Review of The Trip to Bountiful (1985) by Zarinah H — 08 Jul 2008
A bittersweet movie with a compelling and deservedly Oscar-winning performance by Geraldine Page who plays an aging lady who has only one heartfelt desire - to see her childhood home of Bountiful one last time before she dies. Unfortunately her son and daughter-in-law don't share her dream and the determined old lady plucks up her courage and tries to get there by herself, meeting some interesting characters along the way, including a sweet Rebecca de Mornay who shows the old lady some well-deserved empathy.
The story is a heartfelt one, and certainly made me yearn for my own hometown. Geraldine Page single-handedly carries this movie with her poignant performance. This is a movie that will stay with me for a very long time to come.
