Review of The Trip (2011) by Anthony S — 12 Jun 2011
This was a hilarious and sometimes touching film about two middle-aged friends who go on a week-long excursion in the countryside of northern england to see the sights, visit restaurants and ultimately critique them in some sort of article the observer.
the two men are steve coogan and rob brydon, who are playing hyper-realistic versions of themselves, and when they get competitive, as friends can get sometimes, they are a joy to watch. since they are both great impressionists, we get the pleasure of seeing their impressions of michael caine, sean connery, a james bond villain, woody allen, hugh grant, etc.
and we get to hear "small man in a box." because they are both funny guys, the best scenes are seemingly improvised and conversational in nature, like when they are just talking in the car on their way to the next destination.
