A hugely ambitious chin-stroking 2 and a half hours. As normal for a Malik film, every frame is a slice of golden hour gorgeousness. The creation scenes verge into cliched koyanisqtsi territory. I take away a beautiful but unengaging visual essay on memory and nostalgia, where others see religious allegory.
I seem incapable of committing to a Malik film - it always feels like I've spent a few hours in an art gallery: I see some beautiful things, understand a small part of the whole and get a bit bored even though I can't admit it.
