Pretentious? Just a bit. Self-indulgent? Definitely. But what a wonderful film! One to be experienced rather than analyzed (for me anyway) and I'm sure watching again would bring further reward. I re-watched the first 40 minutes as I wasn't in the right gear first time round.
Beautiful score to boot.
