Beautiful, Heartfelt, Tender. Terrence Malick's best film to date The Tree of Life was nominated for 3 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography (which it should have won).
The Tree of Life cover the life of a Texan by the name of Jack (Played by Sean Penn as an adult, and Wonderfully played by Hunter McCracken as a child.) The film Tells the story of Jack and his struggle through life.
The film is told through first person narration , and covers all walks of life, creation, love, struggle, adolescence, fear, death, and redemption. Jack struugles with trying to find if his life is by the way of nature of the way of Grace.
His father, Mr. Obrien ( An exceptional Brad Pitt) follows the way of nature, trying to teach his boys that fierce determination is the way to get through life, often scolding his sons . While his mother Mrs.
Obrien ( A mystical Jessica Chastain) follows the way of grace. trying to show her boys that love is the way to get through life. The thing that Jack's parents have in common is that they both love their boys but want different things for them.
This film is so beautiful, its so packed with majestic visuals, and so warm in tone. The formation of the universe sequence is one of the most beautiful sequences in motion pictures today. This film is wonderfully executed and grand in scope.
It captures life's most tender experiences, through Terrence Malick's heartfelt direction. A wonderful film **** out of ****.
