Review of The Tree of Life (2011) by Simon A — 16 Jan 2013
A truly magnificent movie that ambitiously, but successfully, ponders the question about just what it all means. Moving at a glacial pace & filled with stunning imagery this looks at 'nature' vs 'grace' through the eyes of the conflicted elder son of a 1950's family.
Your interpretation of the film will depend on your very viewpoint on this but Malick perfectly leaves this open to that. Few films that I watch make me instantly want to watch them again but this did just that.
The final 20 mins were powerful, moving and contained lots dialogue. Anyone who can command such a reaction after over 2 hours has to be recommended - and highly.
