Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Scott M — 30 Jul 2008
Bogart plays the scumbag to perfection. Walter Huston and Tim Holt are also terrific. Couldn't help but think of There Will Be Blood while watching this film. John Huston has an awesome cameo towards the beginning too.
I love that the story has a good message to it at the end, and that not everyone is corruptible, and those who are will pay the price (pretty much without exception). It seems that these post-war classics are much darker than the movies that came before, and it definitely makes the movies better when there isn't a bright shiny happy ending at the end of every movie.
From what I've seen so far from John Huston, I can't wait to see more.
