Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Matthew M — 28 Feb 2009
Classic Humphrey Bogart is great as well Walter Huston and Tim Holt. The film shows what people will do for the right amount of money. Money can ruin lives and be the reason why they are ended. The whole story is well crafted with classic lines of dialogue.
The film took almost 6 months to shoot which I find amazing. That is a long time and you can tell by how perfect every scene is filmed. The violence seemed pretty gruesome for the age as well. The ending was kind of depressing but the two remaining Gold hunters changed for the better.
They were better people the longer they held on to the gold as their main source the worse they were becoming. Walter Huston was the most shocking he seemed to not care about the gold as much as them.
He must just be doing it for the thrill. Great characters and the bandits were pretty harsh as well.
