Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Joe L — 30 Apr 2009
Brilliant morality play with an ingenious endgame that emobdies buddhist philosophy in many respects. the story begins cleverly with bogart, who we accept early on as the hero, then watch as he slowly unravels with greed.
walter huston's matter of fact, 'i've seen it all, and nothing that's happening here is surprising to me' performance is one to be studied. the depth of his character is so unexpectedly joyful.
this film may have the happiest sad ending i've ever seen.
