Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Ryan K — 16 Jun 2009
Where to start. This may end up being in my top 10 all time. Humphry Bogart captures an idea that fascinates me brilliantly. He is extremely paranoid, but he is also a back-stabbing bastard. At the beginning I thought he was just a guy that had been burned one too many times.
He was just projecting distrust because he knew that's exactly what he would and will do. The extremely adversarial, downright evil behavior remided me of There Will Be Blood which I heard was inspired by this movie.
On top of that, brilliant acting by the old guy. Really chilling music that accented the tension perfectly. Just a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL film. I can't think of enough good things to say about this masterpiece.
