Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Randy R — 11 Jul 2011
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.
Humphrey Bogart leads two men into the Mexican mountains in search for gold in this early Hollywood flick. After starting out slow the story kicks into gear up in the mountains as the trio fight of bandits and encounter different natives of the Mexican countryside. As the three men spend more time with each other, questions of distrust and loyalty begin to diminish the relationship between the three men. Bogart's characters gradual demise into paranoia and lust for greed keeps the film interesting, while the ending delivers an ironic twist giving this 1940's picture a bit of flavour. Some decent acting, but reasonably run of the mill from the early Hollywood's sausage factory of strong narrative based films.
