Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Jason J — 08 Oct 2011
The very best handful of movies have the ability to involve you in their world. They are so real and so alive that for several hours you are totally present, real, and alive too. You react to what is happening on the screen as if it is happening in your life. You can get angry, fearful, and happy as part of the process of viewing the movie; and the outside world is temporarily absent from your consciousness. "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" is one such movie. The movie captures your all-out attention by the use of compelling images, and brilliant dialog, delivered by fabulous actors, all coordinated by a one-of-a-kind director. Few movies are so compelling so as to involve the viewer like this one.
Bottom line is: "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" is a true masterpiece that relies on a great adventure story, masterfully acted and directed, to immensely entertain from the first minute on, and to interestingly portray a valid side of the human psyche.
