Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Doctor S — 01 Dec 2009
What a performance by Bogart! I hated his charcater's guts at the end...there was nothing to do but laugh out loud at the end! The words of the old timer and prospector (Huston) sums it up in the beginning.
He tells some out-of-luck guys at a homeless shelter one night about how he went from rags to riches with gold finds multiple times over. Now in his last years he would not mind doing it one more time and bow out with just enough to give him a nice, comfortable finish.
But he warns, that finding gold/riches makes a man want more & more and that such greed will swallow your soul.
