Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Lord N — 08 Jan 2010

This was a very good movie. it was very well made and the acting was phenomenal. the story is amazing too. two people who go out in search of the gold of the Sierra madre and they take along an old timer who knows all about the gold rush.

I particularly liked the scene where the two men figure out that with Bogart's lucky lottery win they finally have enough money to go find the gold and they laugh and shake hands together and the old timer just looks at them with a look on his face that clearly says "here we go again".

I also like the part where they have clearly deteriorated to the point where they would murder the fourth man to keep their gold. (and of course there is the ever famous "Badges" line). and of course there is the ending, the gold has blown away and the two surviving members of the gold team are laughing at the pure irony of the situation.

brilliant just brilliant. I loved this movie and I feel that it totally felt that it deserved to win Best Picture over Hamlet.
