Review of The Transporter (2002) by Sebastian K — 27 Mar 2011
The Transporter is an action-packed film with energy to spare and then some. However, it's strictly mindless action and nothing more.
A mercenary "transporter" abides by three rules, and gets the job done if you tell him to. However, he's told to deliver a package, but breaks one of the rules to see that he's delivering a woman. He then gets in some serious trouble with the person who was supposed to get the package, his henchmen, and an organization whose mission is to send slaves from Asia to France.
The scenery in France is nice, the dialogue is fresh, and the music sustains interest throughout. The acting is good as well, and the action is exciting. Cool cars and brisk driving are awesome (especially in a big-budget actioner such as T2), but its low-budget quality sets it apart from other action flicks.
But the plot's not very great, and movie lacks substance. The lead woman doesn't add enough spunk or fire to be noteworthy, which causes romance to be unnecessary. The Transporter also can't make up its mind on what it wants to be: James Bond caper or contemporary thriller? Ah well...
The Transporter is great for action junkies, and a little bit of a letdown for those expecting... a plot. Goes above the speed limit, but in this case, it's better than going slower. A relatively smooth ride, especially when you leave your brain in the trunk.
