Review of The Transformers: The Movie (1986) by Blaine H — 25 Jun 2011
With the third Transformers coming out, I figured I would review the 3 other Transformers movies starting with the one from 1986. The Transformers - The Movie takes place between season 2 and 3 of the original G1 cartoon.
The movie marked the discontinuation of most of the toys to introduce the season 3 and 4 toys. The movie is about the Decepticons are invading Autobot City and finding a new leader for both sides. In this movie, the way death works is that if the toy of the character was being discontinued, that character dies.
Majority of all the season 1 and 2 characters die and this would include Optimus and Megatron. They have this epic battle between them and Megatron turns out to be the victor (just find this fight on YouTube).
The fact that Optimus dies really upset all the kids from the 80's so if you though Michael Bay was the first to do it, then you are wrong. Once both of the main leaders die, the movie shifts into finding the new Autobot lead and how do we stop the giant robot named Unicron.
If you were a fan of the original Transformers then see this movie sometime. I did not give away everything cause if I try to say everything that is going on, then this would be a very long review. The movie is somewhat dated with the 80's hair metal music but the animation still holds up.
Just one more quick thing. Optimus would later come back as a zombie and then would be revived at the end of season 3.
