Review of The Transformers: The Movie (1986) by David H — 20 Jul 2011
What can I say? I loved watching the TV show in the 80s, and I had some of the toys, so loving this film was enevitable! The animation (very Japanese) is amazing, and poos all over the TV show. The effects and sound are far superior, and it took over 2 years to make (longer than most Disney efforts).
The cast, not that I knew who they were at the time, was surprisngly impressive with Orson Welles, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Idle, Judd Nelson, and the multi-talented Peter Cullen (check out IMDB for all the voices!).
The music is fantastic (Vince DiCola also workd on 'Rocky'), and there's many memorable tracks, but they won't appeal to many now, and, again, is nothing like the TV show. I'm more of a fan of this, than than show, and of the recent film, but its a shame that the series set after the movie just wasn't up to par, and the casting had changed.
Its just great to see the many other versions of Transformers' series being made, so more and more children (and adults) can continue to enjoy this phenominum. And now the live-action movie has been successful, and 'Rise of the Fallen' soon to be released, the Transformers will never disappear!
