Review of The Transformers: The Movie (1986) by Dylan S — 07 Oct 2014
Beyond the toys is a deep story about dealing with the death of a mentor, the pressure of war and teamwork to survive against impossible odds.
The likes of Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, the late great Orson Wells and more would go on to deliver lines in this movie that would be forever a part of pop culture.
Unrivalled music that truly embodied the early 80s with Stan Bush (as well as other mid tier 80s hair bands) doing vocals and Vince Dicola (of Rocky fame) doing a flawless job at the original soundtrack.
There is a strong reason why there is a stark contrast between the Tomatometer and the Audience meter. The audience (the most important person to please when dealing with telling a story on any medium) "get it", sadly the reviewers looking for their next "Clockwork Orange" or even on an animation level at the time (Which was more or less a Disney monopoly in films in America) didn't understand. But it gives me great pleasure (as cryptic as this sounds) that most of them will be in the ground by the time I have clicked this POST and the real generation who grew up on this and understood how powerful a film it is will be the one's truly singing it's praises.
