Review of The Tracey Fragments (2007) by Dominique M — 05 Apr 2008
In between "Hard Candy" and "Juno", Ellen Page appeared in this small Canadian production and delivered another strong performance - but this time, the film isn't really worthy of her talents.
Cult director Bruce McDonald ("Highway 61", "Hard Core Logo") presents the "fragments" motif of his story by showcasing almost all the scenes with multiple split screens - but it often just seems like an excuse to get all the coverage he shot into the finished film.
The approach quickly grows monotonous and tiresome, making the scant 77-minute running time feel a lot longer, and it doesn't build up to a payoff that makes the dizzying head trip worthwhile.
