Review of The Toy (1982) by Joseph V — 05 Sep 2009
A very strange movie. I started off not particularly liking it, but towards the end it developed a kind of sweetness. A young audience would get the most leverage out of this movie. The cinematography is very colorful, the sets are whimsically decorated, and the humor is mostly physical. Adults will appeciate some of the racier material, but this really isn't a comedy geared for them. "The Toy" is really about how great it would be to have a rich dad and a play pal like Richard Pryor.
So, surprisingly to myself, I ended up liking the movie in this regard. It's for the young or the young at heart or anyone who has pangs of 80s nostalgia.
