This movie embodies the campy humor of the teenage mutant ninja turtles cartoon from the 90s with over the top gore and sex. How is that not a winning formula? Toxic Avenger is a black comedy that pokes fun at alot of the problems bad movies seem to keep making.
My favorite is the overly emphasized evil of the bad guys. They are the bullies who end up causing the accident that turns Melvin into the "hideously deformed creature of super-human size and strength" that is Toxie.
Throughout the movie they play this game where they hit people with their car and get points based on what the person was (children are double points). So after running of the skull of a kid on a bike, Slug says "Shit, I needta go home.
" when everyone starts to protest, he says "I gotta get up early...gotta go to church." to which everyone responds with an "Ohhhhh...". This movie is hilarious, vulgar, and for the weak willed, hard to watch.
..this earns the John seal of approval.
