Review of The Towering Inferno (1974) by Joshua C — 30 Sep 2010
There are two things that this movie has, and are all it needs to blow my mind across the room. One big and one small. The big are the effects and visuals. The pyrotechnics are amazing, and the camerawork make the models seem real (except for a couple of shots near the beginning). Impresses me today, so I can't imagine what it was like 35 years ago. The small is the subtle weaving of the interesting characters (all well played) through the dangerous plot. They're not to hard to pick out, but they're not overplayed. In a different scenario, they might be overplayed to try and balance the action and the story. But they didn't, and it suits the movie. Add the star power and the suspense, and...
HOLY SHIT.
